Pilates Matwork is the foundational work that incorporates all of the Pilates principles of control, centering, concentration, breathing, precision and flow. Participants are guided through a dynamic series of exercises on the mat (floor) that progress with skill level. Matwork classes may incorporate balls, the Pilates circle, MELT soft rollers, and other fitness tools.
The Reformer is a spring tension and pulley based piece of equipment. It incorporates spring resistance with assistance to elongate and align the body while in motion. Exercises are performed in a specific sequence with an emphasis on flow and precision. The MELT Method is also incorporated in the classes to enhance a deep feeling of core recruitment, while balancing the body’s nervous system.
Classes are offered from beginner to advanced levels.
MELT ON PILATES MATWORK
Perfect for the participant new to Pilates but also amazing for the person who is knowledgeable in the Pilates repertoire but is craving a deeper core connection. At this level, participants will learn how to engage the deep core muscles at the spine, shoulder and pelvic girdle while balancing the nervous system and releasing tension in the muscles that leads to dysfunctional movement patterns. Experience a well-rounded, moderate paced workout with emphasis on increased coordination, breath capacity, precise control, and concentration while building strength in both the core and extremities. Participants will be introduced to the Pilates vocabulary, exercise names, and sequence of exercises, while acquiring whole body balance. **This class is intended for the participant who is free of pain and recent injury.
Building upon the basics, this level aims to increase your experience, skills, and strength while challenging the musculoskeletal an neuorological pathways through a quickened pace and lengthened levers. Participants will be asked to perform the flowing Pilates movements with increased breath capacity, mental control, and greater control of the core. Transitions, which connect one exercise to the next, are also introduced.
These classes move at a quicker tempo and assume that students understand the basic choreography of each exercise and are becoming more familiar with transitions. Students will be challenged with more complicated exercises, greater range of motion, and more dynamic, flowing movements. Although the class moves at pace, there is still some time devoted to fine tuning and looking closely at specific exercises. For participants experienced, skilled, and strong in their Pilates practice, who are now honing more powerful core strength and control, pelvic and shoulder stability, spinal articulation and overall uniform development.
INTRO TO REFORMER
This class gives participants a preview of what to expect in an Essential Group Reformer class. Once you’ve completed the Intro to Reformer course, you can move up to the Essential Group Reformer class.
